History of Speleology Commission

Our Mission

The History of Speleology Commission is an international working group dedicated to the historical study of cave and karst sciences in all their forms.
Our aim is not only to explore the development of this multifaceted field, its figures, institutions, and knowledge from political, social, and cultural perspectives, but also to promote and disseminate them within the broader contemporary context of the Earth sciences and humanities.
The Commission was established by the International Union of Speleology in 1965. It currently comprises 12 members from 10 countries.
If you are interested, please contact the President of the Commission Bernhard Chirol or any of our members.
